If you’re an Inception fan, the numbers 528491 might look familiar.
Throughout Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending thriller, 528491 appears several times. It’s the combination to the safe in the dream world, it’s used as the number of two hotel rooms, and it even appears on a note that Fischer gives Cobb.
But what many people don’t realise is that these same six digits also unlock a hidden Easter egg on the Inception Triple Play Blu-ray.
How to Access the Inception Blu-ray Easter Egg
To find the hidden feature, you’ll need Disc 2 – the Special Features disc.
- Insert Disc 2 and wait for the main menu to load.
- Using your remote control, enter the following numbers one at a time:
5 – 2 – 8 – 4 – 9 – 1
After pressing each number, pause briefly to allow the menu to reset.
Once you’ve entered the final digit, a hidden feature will unlock.
What’s Hidden on the Disc?
The Easter egg reveals an exclusive motion comic called The Cobol Job.
This animated prequel tells the story of the failed extraction that takes place shortly before the events of Inception. It explains why Cobb and Arthur are forced to flee from Cobol Engineering and provides extra background to the opening of the film.
For fans of Inception, it’s a fantastic bonus that many owners of the Blu-ray never discover.
Why 528491 Matters
The decision to hide the Easter egg behind the number 528491 is a clever nod to the film itself.
Inception is filled with recurring details, hidden clues and visual callbacks, so using one of the movie’s most recognisable numbers as the unlock code feels perfectly in keeping with its puzzle-box design.
It’s also a reward for attentive viewers. If you spotted the number appearing throughout the film, you already had the key to unlocking the secret.
