There are 3 Easter Eggs hidden on the Pixar Short Films DVD that show the early achievements of the famous animation company.
Here’s how to find them.
Easter Egg 1 – Luxo Jr. Line Tests
Go to Short Films.
Highlight “Boundin’”, but don’t press enter.
Instead, press down on your remote.
A small Luxo lamp will appear.
Press enter to unlock the hidden clip.
This plays early line tests from the 1986 Pixar short film Luxo Jr..
What it shows
This is early animation testing from Pixar’s original short film work. The animation is very rough compared to the finished short, but it shows how the motion of the lamp was developed.
Easter Egg 2 – Flags and Waves
Go to the Main Menu.
Select Setup.
Enter Languages.
Highlight English, but don’t press enter.
Press right on your remote.
A small red flag icon appears.
Press enter to unlock the clip.
What it shows
This opens Flags and Waves, a short technical demo from 1986. It was created to test and demonstrate early CGI water effects.
Easter Egg 3 – Beach Chair
Go back to Setup.
Enter Subtitles.
Highlight English, but don’t press enter.
Press up on your remote.
A red beach chair icon will appear.
Press enter to unlock the clip.
What it shows
This plays Beach Chair, an early Pixar animation test used to experiment with lighting and movement in CGI.
This is a good set of hidden extras that give a good look at Pixar’s early technical work before feature films.
