Moon DVD Hidden Easter Egg
The Moon DVD includes a hidden Easter egg in the main menu that shows some incredible CGI effects that merge well with a physical prop.
Here’s how to find it.
How to access it
Insert the DVD
Go to “Special Features”
Open “Trailers”
Scroll to “Special Features” but do not press enter
Press RIGHT on your remote
GERTY’s face will be highlighted.
Press ENTER.
What you get
A short hidden scene of GERTY’s robotic arms playing table tennis against each other. It references the film’s scene where Sam Bell — played by Sam Rockwell — plays table tennis against his clone, also played by Sam Rockwell.
While GERTY’s main unit in Moon is a physical prop, the arms in this sequence are CGI.
In an interview with fxguide.com, visual effects supervisor Simon Stanley-Clamp explained that the production originally tried building practical robotic arms using mechanical rigs and fishing wire. The setup was too bulky and was replaced with CGI for the final sequence.
