Little Britain Series 1

The Little Britain DVD Easter Egg That Crashes Your Player

The Season 1 DVD of Little Britain hides one of the strangest Easter eggs ever put on a disc — and it doesn’t just unlock a bonus clip.

It actually crashes the DVD.

How to Trigger It

From the main menu:

  1. Select Extras
  2. Go to Character Playlist
  3. Choose Lou and Andy
  4. Press Enter

You’ll then see a prompt:

“Do you want to crash the disc?”

Select Yes.

Andy warns you it will crash.

Select Yes again.

Then it asks if you’re really sure.

Press Yes one more time…

The disc freezes. Menu controls stop working. You’re stuck until you restart the player.

What’s Actually Happening

This isn’t a glitch — it’s intentional DVD authoring.

DVD menus are built from linked video clips and button commands. In this Easter egg, the final choice removes any usable navigation path.

The video still plays, but the interface no longer responds.

How It Was Built

Using tools like PGCEdit, you can break the structure down and see how it works.

There are three short video segments:

  • 5-second clip: first crash warning screen
  • 3-second clip: second confirmation screen
  • 7-second clip: final “crash” sequence

Each step uses button mapping to push the user forward through the sequence.

The key moment is the final 7-second clip.

It has no active buttons.

At that point, the DVD has nowhere left to send you, so control is effectively lost.

Why It’s So Unusual

Most DVD Easter eggs hide bonus content.

This one deliberately removes control from the viewer and creates a dead end in the menu system — something DVD designers normally avoid.

Final Thought

The DVD of Little Britain contains a rare example of intentional menu “crashing” through navigation design — simple, clever, and unusual for a retail disc.
