Independence Day DVD Easter Egg — Board the Alien spaceship and access the easter eggs....no really :)    •

Independence Day DVD Easter Egg

The 1996 blockbuster Independence Day is packed with memorable moments, from giant alien ships to explosive action scenes. But if you own the two-disc DVD edition, there’s a hidden Easter egg that lets you do something fans have probably wished they could do for years…

You can actually enter the alien spaceship on the menu screen.

Here’s how to find this clever hidden feature.

How to Access the Secret Alien Menu

Start by loading the DVD and waiting for the main menu to appear. You’ll see the huge alien mothership hovering in the background.

Step 1: Open the Data Console

From the main menu, select Data Console.

You’ll now be on a computer-style screen, with the alien ship still visible in the background.

Step 2: Highlight the Power Button

Highlight Main Menu, then press Right on your DVD remote.

This will move the cursor to a hidden red power button on the computer screen.

Press Enter.

The Secret Activation Code

Two things happen when you press Enter:

  1. The computer screen displays the message:

Systems Activated – Access 7-4-Enter

  1. The alien spaceship in the background begins to move.

Now return to the Main Menu.

When you’re back on the main menu and facing the spaceship, press:

7 → 4 → Enter

What’s Hidden Inside the Spaceship?

Entering the code takes you inside the alien ship and unlocks two sets of hidden Easter eggs.

Explosion Gallery

The first section contains 12 explosion clips from the film, showcasing some of Independence Day’s biggest destruction scenes.

News Footage Clips

The second section contains 11 fictional news reports created for the movie. These clips expand the world of the film and are a fun extra for fans.

Why This Easter Egg Is So Clever

Most DVD Easter eggs simply unlock a hidden video or an extra menu. Independence Day goes one step further by letting you feel as though you’re actually boarding the alien mothership itself.

It’s one of the most creative uses of a DVD menu system and remains a fantastic hidden feature nearly three decades after the film’s release.
