The secret feature reveals an early version of Bruno, one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s most famous characters, years before he became known around the world.
How to Find the Ali G DVD Easter Egg
- Insert the DVD and go to the Main Menu.
- Highlight “Play All.”
- Press Up on your remote control.
The letter “G” in the Ali G logo will become highlighted, and the hidden video will begin playing automatically.
What’s in the Hidden Video?
The Easter egg contains a clip of Bruno visiting a hardcore punk festival in 1999.
What’s fascinating is how different the character looks compared to later appearances. The hairstyle, clothing and overall presentation are noticeably different from the Bruno that most people remember.
Bruno Is Older Than Ali G and Borat
Although Bruno didn’t appear in Da Ali G Show until 2003, the character actually predates both Ali G and Borat.
Bruno originally appeared on the UK’s Paramount Channel as the presenter of the spoof fashion programme Funk Off. These early appearances show Sacha Baron Cohen experimenting with the character and developing the exaggerated Austrian accent that would later become famous.
